Annapurna farm is the first certified organic dairy farm in South India. The biggest Auroville farm, 135 acres of mainly heavy black clay soil produces field crops, fruits and dairy products since 30 years. Annapurna is Auroville`s granary and processes grains, pulses and oilseeds.
Annapurna is cultivating traditional paddy varieties, irrigating predominantly from rain water harvesting ponds.
Annapurna dairy, based on a crossbred of indigenous cows is a demonstration site for Indian dairy farmers through SLI. Farmers are exposed to a structured dairy management system ( breeding techniques, feeding methods, management practices), as well as to milk processing.
The farm regular hosts school kids even from Chennai to expose them to organic food production
